I’m done with Valentine’s Day. But is it done with me?
I meet Lucien on Valentine’s Day, when I’m on my way to visit my hometown of Castle Falls to celebrate anti-Valentine’s-Day with my sister, who has been as unlucky in love as I’ve been.
As my continued bad luck would have it, though, my car goes off the road and gets stuck during a snowstorm. At least I manage to walk to Lucien’s house… or should I say mansion?
He’s a grumpy recluse who doesn’t appreciate uninvited guests. Suffice it to say that we really don’t get along at first, despite the fact that he’s gorgeous. But something about the “love” part of our love/hate chemistry seems to warm his heart and he offers me shelter in his huge house… and under his covers.
It looks like our Valentine’s Day is really heating up, despite both of us vowing not to have one ever again because we’d sworn off love forever. I’m only going to be in town for a few days so we both know it’s just a temporary hook-up.
But that hook-up is so hot it seems to melt the snow faster than I was expecting. I’m surprised to realize I don’t want to have to leave, but I do.
I want to see him again but I’d told myself I wouldn’t get into another relationship after my last one had ended so disastrously. But this isn’t a relationship. This is just taking advantage of the fact that a handsome, older, rich guy like Lucien would offer me shelter after I’d been in an accident.
Speaking of accidents, I can’t believe it when I start having morning sickness a little over a month later.
I can’t tell Lucian because it was just supposed to be something casual and, as a single father fighting for custody of his son, he has enough on his plate. But it turns out he can’t get me off his mind either and he wants to claim what’s his. He just doesn’t know about what else is his… yet.
Is this a Valentine’s Day disaster I knew I should have steered clear of?
Or are we falling for each other just as deeply as the snow that trapped us together in the first place?
